Rakhi can be made more special when you have something made by your own hands for your sister / brother. Rakhis can be made at home, but this craft is left to do only for sisters. But boys can also make something for their sisters – like a card.

Here are some Craft ideas for Rakhi:

1. Cards

Make a keepsake card for your sister / brother. All you need is a chart paper, some colors, glitter pens and colored pens.

• Make a drawing on the card sheet and let your little one color it. You may further decorate it with glitter pens.
• Make a Rakhi shaped Card and let you kid color it. Make it beautiful with some glitter pens and outline with a black marker.

• Alternatively, cut some shapes from simple chart paper or foam sheet and paste them on the card to make a rakhi. Use decorative tape to mark the thread.

• If your little one has learnt to write his alphabets, help him write inside the card. My kiddo only knows his capitals as of now, so we wrote it likewise. Older kids can write their wishes on their own. Alternatively, you can use alphabet cutouts from newspapers and magazines to write the wishes.

2. Make Rakhis

How about making some Rakhis at home this time? Your little ones will enjoy this craft. But make sure that the Rakhis are not fragile, otherwise you might have to deal with some tears and tempers.

Gather all crafty stuff you might have around – foam sheets (cut into various shapes and sizes), stickers – simple or felt ones, crystal stickers,  pompoms, yarn/ thread/ ribbons etc.

                                    

We used foam sheet cut out to form the base and then made few rakhis by sticking stickers on them.

Further, you can stick the base to the thread/ ribbon with quick fix/ fevicol or just staple it. Make sure it is stuck properly.

We made a monogram Rakhi too, by sticking the alphabet sticker of the initial of brother’s name.

 

Here is another option –  chocolate rakhi!!

Though we did not make any of this , but you can also make a photo rakhi. Just stick the cut out of the pic of the brother or both the siblings on the foam piece.

3. Decorate Thalis

Lastly, you may make your own pooja thali and decorate it.

All you need is a simple thermocol plate. Decorate it with acrylic paint, frolica tube, glitter pens and you are good to go !

Kids would love to celebrate the festival by using all the crafts that they have made themselves !! So, try and do atleast one of the above and make Rakhi special for the kids.
